Your compliance text

This is a starting point based on carrier and Twilio registration guidance, not legal advice. Edit it so it matches what you actually send.

Disclaimer: This tool gives general guidance only. It is not legal advice and does not guarantee that your 10DLC registration will be approved or that your messages will be delivered. Carriers and The Campaign Registry make their own decisions, and their rules change. Evant takes no responsibility for how you use this text or for any registration, filtering or legal outcome. Review everything before you submit it, and talk to a lawyer about TCPA or other legal questions.

What do you need to pass 10DLC registration?

Clear, optional consent, plus matching text everywhere carriers look. Your sign-up form needs an unchecked SMS box with your name, message frequency, "msg & data rates may apply" and HELP/STOP. Your privacy policy has to say you never share mobile numbers. Your campaign description, sample messages and auto-replies all need to tell the same story.

Tips for churches, shuls and nonprofits

The rules are the same for everyone, but a few things trip up community organizations.

1

Membership can't require texts

Don't make "agree to receive texts" part of joining, registering for school or buying a ticket. Put SMS consent in its own optional box.

2

Paper sign-ups count

A sign-up sheet in the lobby works if it shows your name, frequency, rates and STOP. Keep the sheets, and describe them in your message flow.

3

Say if you'll ask for donations

If you'll ever send an appeal, include a donation sample. Samples that don't match what you send are a common reason for rejection.

10DLC Compliance FAQ

What is 10DLC?

10DLC means texting from a regular 10-digit phone number for business or organizational messages. US carriers require every organization that does this to register its brand and each campaign, so they can see who is texting and how people opted in.

Does my nonprofit or church need to register for 10DLC?

Yes. Nonprofits, churches and synagogues sending texts from an application or texting platform to a regular 10-digit number go through the same registration as businesses.

What has to be in my privacy policy for SMS?

A statement that you don't share mobile numbers or SMS opt-in data with third parties, plus your message frequency and that message and data rates may apply. The generator above writes this section for you.

Can the SMS consent checkbox be checked by default?

No. Twilio rejects campaigns where the box is pre-checked (error 30925). The person has to check it themselves, and it has to be optional.

What should the HELP and STOP replies say?

Your HELP reply should name your organization and give a way to reach you. Your STOP reply should confirm they've been unsubscribed and won't get more texts. Each reply needs to be 20 to 320 characters.

Can I use bit.ly links in my texts?

Avoid them. Twilio rejects sample messages with public link shorteners (error 30892), and carriers often filter texts that use them. Use your full link or a short domain you own.

Is this legal advice?

No. It's a starting point based on Twilio's published registration guidance. Make sure the text matches what you actually send, and talk to your lawyer about TCPA questions.
