Paste a message to check itWe'll flag anything carriers are known to filter.

Carriers don't publish their exact filters. These checks come from Twilio's messaging policies and the patterns texting providers report most often. A clean result lowers your risk but can't guarantee delivery.

Why do text messages get marked as spam?

Usually because of a link, a word or a missing name, not because you're a spammer. Carriers scan every text sent from a business or organization number. Public shorteners like bit.ly, raffle or sweepstakes language, all caps and "act now" wording, and texts that don't say who they're from are the patterns most often reported to get blocked. Fix those, and most filtering goes away.

The raffle trap for shuls, churches and schools

The one that catches the most community organizations off guard.

1

Raffles count as gambling

Twilio lists 50/50 raffles and sweepstakes as gambling, which is forbidden on every type of number. That holds even for a fundraiser.

2

Text about the event instead

"Our Chanukah fundraiser is Sunday at 2pm. Details at bethisrael.org/chanukah" gets the word out. Put the raffle details on the page.

3

Bingo is the exception

Twilio allows community and local bingo messages. Other bingo promotions need an approved short code.

What to do if your texts are already being filtered

On Twilio, filtered texts show up as error 30007. Here's how to work through it.

StepWhat to do
1. Fix the contentRun your last few texts through the checker. Remove shorteners and anything flagged red.
2. Match your registrationMake sure what you send matches your 10DLC campaign description and sample messages.
3. Check your listOnly text people who opted in, and honor every STOP right away.
4. Slow down big sendsSudden spikes from one number look like spam. Ramp up volume gradually.
5. Ask for a reviewIf clean texts still fail, send your provider at least 3 filtered message IDs and ask for a filtering review.

Based on Twilio's error 30007 documentation.

SMS Spam Checker FAQ

Why are my text messages not being delivered?

The most common reasons are a public link shortener like bit.ly, content in a forbidden category such as raffles or loans, spammy wording, or texting from a number that isn't registered for 10DLC. Paste your text into the checker above to see which applies.

Does bit.ly get texts blocked?

Often, yes. Twilio says shared public URL shorteners are not permitted and will cause filtering. Use the full link on your own website or a short link on a domain you own.

Can a church or synagogue text about a raffle?

It's risky. Twilio lists 50/50 raffles and sweepstakes as gambling, which is forbidden for texting even for nonprofits. Text about the event, and put the raffle details on your website.

What is Twilio error 30007?

Error 30007 means the message was filtered, either by Twilio or by the recipient's carrier, because it looked like spam or broke messaging rules. Fix the content, then ask your provider for a review if clean texts still fail.

Do I need "Reply STOP" in every text?

Not in every one, but people need to know how to opt out. Include it in your first text and regularly after that, at least once a month for recurring messages.

Can this tool guarantee my text gets delivered?

No. Carriers don't publish their exact filters, and delivery also depends on your registration, your list and your sending volume. The checker catches the content problems that are most often reported to cause filtering.
